Why should you take a break?

Using computers and VDUs for too long without breaks has been associated with:
  • Eye strain, eye discomfort, headaches and migraines.
  • Back, neck and upper body pain.
  • RSI (Reptitive Strain Injury) and WRULD (Work Related Upper Limb Disorder) of fingers and wrists.
  • Reduced blink rates leading to dry eyes.
  • Temporary Myopia (short-sightedness) leading to other incidents such as driving mistakes.
All of these injuries lead to a lower level of performance and accuracy at work and play. Some of them can ruin careers and cost industry millions of pounds.

You can reduce the risk of getting these injuries by taking regular breaks and doing stretching exercises.

Most computer users find it extremely difficult to remember to take enough breaks without prompting. This is why we designed ScreamSaver so that it will be there to prompt you and will provide you with a set of stretching exercises to do in your breaks. It will also provide you with guidance on how to use your computer in a healthy way.
